Medscape opens doors on first London office

Plans to use it as an international hub as it looks beyond its US homeland

Health information specialist Medscape has opened its first London office.

The move is part of a larger initiative to expand the WebMD and Medscape brands and help develop the company's advertising and sponsorship revenue globally, it said.

New York-headquartered Medscape has more than 25 staff in Europe, managing multiple services. They focus primarily on sales and marketing, and editorial servicing for both Boots/WebMD (the company's UK-wide website), and Medscape.

The London office is to serve as an international hub from which WebMD can serve clients globally. It plans to continue to pursue opportunities to extend its reach beyond the United States.

“We're very pleased that we have a presence for our global staff based in London,” Jeremy Schneider, SVP and managing director, WebMD global, told PMLiVE.

“For several years we have had a growing global business for our WebMD and Medscape brands, and given our view of its importance, it made sense to have an office from which we can service customers, primarily in Europe, but also globally, and particularly with respect to our healthcare professional's audience.”

Asked about the company's plans for its London presence, a Medscape representative said: “We are optimistic about expanding our business internationally, and believe we'll continue to grow.  We're always looking for the best and brightest talent across our business to help build on our momentum. We have not announced any specific plans or areas where we are planning to expand.”

Medscape from WebMD offers specialists, primary care physicians, and other health professionals medical information and educational tools. Content includes review articles, journal commentary, patient education articles, and book reviews.
