Sarah Matthew crowned Healthcare Communiquétor 2017

Communiqué Awards recognise contribution of Golin's global healthcare practice chair

Golin and Virgo Health’s global healthcare practice chair Sarah Matthew picked up the prestigious HCA Award for Healthcare Communiquétor at last week’s 2017 Communiqué Awards in London.

The prize is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution through healthcare communication throughout their careers.

Matthew served as managing director at Shire Health London and then joint managing director alongside Angie Wiles at Virgo Health, prior to the latter agency’s acquisition by Golin.

During that time Shire Health London won Consultancy of the Year of the Year in 1998, 1999 and 2001, Virgo picked up Best Small Consultancy 2004, Communications Consultancy of the Year 2006, 2009 and 2010, and Medical Communications Consultancy of the Year 2012 and 2016.

AstraZeneca’s head of respiratory and INA global corporate Amie Baker has worked with Matthew for around a decade. Commenting on the award, Baker said: “She has been one of the most impactful leaders in healthcare communications over these years - elevating our standards of practice, innovating our ways of working and inspiring so many professionals in their careers.

“I particularly value her consistently sound judgement and candid counsel, but her good humour means she is also a pleasure to work with.”

Catherine Warne, previously CEO of Health Unlimited and now a partner at Redhead Associates, added: “In my view, Sarah is the unsung heroine of our industry. So much of her senior consulting is confidential that few people know of her amazing achievements with leading industry bodies such as the ABPI and the DH, and with industry leaders who trust her counsel.

“She is also a modest person and would never blow her own trumpet, so it's high time we did it for her. She is an entrepreneur, business leader, groundbreaking strategic consultant and there isn't an ounce of pomposity about her.”
