Communiqué – Volume 53

Gaining new insights in health comms innovation

Having announced the new co-chairs of the Communiqué Awards, Catherine Devaney and Neil Flash earlier this year, I’m pleased to say that they have written the foreword for this issue, Embracing bravery in innovation: learning, failure and success in health communications.

As they say: “Innovation in health communications requires a special kind of courage – the willingness to take risks – while staying compliant – and challenge the status quo. This bravery allows us to develop breakthrough strategies that can truly move the needle on critical challenges. But embracing innovation is not easy. It requires accepting failures and finding value in lessons learned along the way.”

They go on to talk about how the health and medical communications industry is “undergoing something of a ‘reset’, with challenges with resourcing, time and budgets meaning in-house and agency teams must work harder than ever to demonstrate impact and value.”

Speaking as co-chairs, they add: “Without losing the importance of doing the basics brilliantly and demonstrating impact, during our tenure we’d like to advocate for the industry to harness bravery as we innovate in the high-stakes realm of health.” Read more on page 6.

Following the exciting 2023 Communiqué Awards, we are pleased to offer our readers a selection of case studies that showcase the winning work from the Awards. They highlight the truly excellent work of pharma and agencies in healthcare as they strive to improve awareness, shift perceptions, change behaviours and innovate patient care.

To inspire you in your next moves, in this issue we also bring you over 260 agencies to choose from when shortlisting your next communications partner. Visit us online where you’ll see that the print directory is fully integrated with our PMLiVE.com website.

I hope you enjoy this issue!
