UK Sepsis Trust named Communiqué charity of the year

Wins praise from the judges for its HCP engagement

Communiqué Awards 2017 charity of the year patient group UK Sepsis Trust

The UK Sepsis Trust picked up the Charity, Patient or Professional Association of the Year at last week’s Communiqué Awards.

A small and relative new charity, the UK Sepsis Trust also picked up a high commendation in the Excellence in Public Health Communications category the ‘Just Ask’ campaign by 11-London.

Commenting on the charity of the year prize, for which it was also supported by 11-London, the Communiqué judges said they were particularly impressed by the powerful stakeholder feedback the charity earned.

“The level of engagement from HCPs is absolutely fantastic and the team really thought about the use of different channels for their audience to make a genuine impact. Overall an innovative and wonderfully creative organisation.”

Although sepsis, a serious complication of an infection, kills 44,000 people each year in the UK, it has traditionally been chronically under-diagnosed and under-reported.

Founded in 2012 by Dr Ron Daniels, the UK Sepsis Trust is made up of a core team of medical experts, volunteers and dedicated individuals, who campaign to make sepsis a public health priority.

Since the charity’s formation, mortality rates in the UK have decreased substantially, with an estimated 9,000 more people now surviving sepsis each year.

It also had an impressive 2016, with the year seeing the ‘Just Ask’ campaign adopted by Public Health England and a 15% lift in public awareness of sepsis as an emergency condition.

Run by PMLiVE’s publisher the PMGroup, the Communiqué Awards recognise and reward outstanding work in healthcare communications across local, European and international markets.
